I dread paperwork as much as anyone else. But turning a daily 30-minute report-writing routine into a 5-minute task you can do on your phone? That excites me.

Once, as a new hire at a food-processing startup, I was told to inventory a storage container full of parts. My supervisor thought he'd get a handwritten list -- when I came back with a searchable electronic database instead, he asked what I could do with his pile of maintenance logs.

Within a month or so, I created a program to manage over 1100 recurring inspections and repairs for the 62,000 sq. ft. facility, which saved the department hundreds of man-hours annually.

I don't just see tasks to complete. I try to see the processes we use to complete them, and then I work to improve those processes.
